NSCSWP Requirements
(NSCSWP - National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program)
The Federal Government stipulates that Chaplains are required to have a minimum qualification of Cert 4 IV in Youth Work OR Certificate IV in Pastoral Care OR equivalent or higher qualification. The qualification must include the identified mental health AND referrals units: CHCCS422A - Respond holistically to client issues and refer appropriately; and CHCMH301B - Work effectively in mental health. Chaplains cannot be employed by SU QLD without meeting or exceeding this minimum requirement.*
Exemptions are provided for qualified teachers, psychologists and social workers.

*SU QLD's minimum standard for training School Chaplains is the nationally-accredited SU QLD Diploma of Youth Work, or equivalent or higher qualification. While the qualification is labelled "Youth Work", it is designed to address the training needs of School Chaplains working in both primary and secondary schools. Successful applicants will be required to attain this qualification during service if not already qualified.
