Community Outreach

Since the very beginning in the 1860s, Scripture Union (SU) organisations worldwide have run local, community-based outreaches to provide fun activities for children and families.

Dozens of events still take place every year throughout the state.

From December 26^th to the 2^nd of January 500 young people and their families heard a story of hope in Bargara, a coastal town of Bundaberg.

AMPED Bargara Community Outreach was a week of fun, community engagement and building great relationships.

A dedicated group of 50 volunteers ran children and young adult’s programs, as well as a skate competition, family carnival and a community fireworks display. But this program reached further than only the young people.

“There were a number of parents that would stay and watch during one of our children’s programs. A couple of leaders would spend their time talking to the parents. One mother would come everyday just to chat to these leaders. She was amazed at the love she felt from having people that cared about her and told her an amazing God loved her,” says Outreach Director Jane Moe.

The support from the community was overwhelming with local organisations jumping on board. Special thanks to the Bundaberg Regional Council, Bargara Surf Centre, Bargara Caravan Park and Coral Coast Christian Church who made the event possible.

This was the first year of AMPED Bargara Community Outreach and is just one example of SU QLD’s community outreach events. Each event provides opportunity for individuals and churches to practically show God’s love in local communities through holiday programs for children, youth, and families.
