BY YVETTE ATKINS

It’s often said, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. But it’s only recently that this adage really sunk in for me.

I’d just finished speaking with a very dear supporter whose husband had recently passed away. She’d called to let me know she was leaving a gift in her will to SU QLD.

She wasn’t seeking recognition or wanting anyone to make a fuss over her. In fact, she had no intention of letting me know until she was prompted by something she’d read.

Phil Henley, Steadfast Realty

A passion for helping others achieve their dreams has set Phil Henley on course to change the way people view real estate agents.

For Phil, Principal Agent and owner of Steadfast Realty, supporting children and young people is very important.

“Chaplaincy is all about the kids – it’s a crucial support service for them,” Phil said.

“It gives them someone to talk to, engage and share with; those things are really important for children as they navigate through school.”

Steadfast Realty generously partners with SU QLD to provide financial support to chaplaincy services across Brisbane’s Northside through property transactions.

“If we get a referral which leads to a contract, we donate 50 per cent of the commission to Scripture Union; half of that goes to office support and half to the Local Chaplaincy Committee,” says Phil.

“In this case, we have donated $5,000 from this property referral, which will go to providing support and funding hours for Chappy Rachael Pickard, who works in Brighton State School.”

Steadfast Realty also support SU QLD’s Camps program, which each year provides over 5,000 children and teenagers a fun-filled, positive time away from home in the school holiday periods.

“We love to send kids to SU camps, which are not only a heap of fun for them but also aids them significantly in their development,” Phil recalls.

“Some of the kids’ families can’t afford to send them on camp, so each year we set aside some money specifically to help get more kids to camp – we don’t want people to be left out.”

List your home with Steadfast Realty and help young Queenslanders!

Steadfast Realty Principal and proud SU QLD supporter, Phil Henley, will donated 50%* of the commission from the sale of your home to support school chaplains.

Phil, a family man with many years’ experience in the Brisbane property market, believes in supporting programs, like school chaplaincy, that help young people understand their value.

With Phil’s proven track record in successfully partnering with home owners to sell their property on their terms, you know you’re in safe hands.

If you’re interested in supporting children and young people in Queensland schools when selling property on Brisbane’s Northside, contact Phil on 0439 990 320 or phil@steadfastrealty.com.au

As you may recall from our Christmas Appeal last year, 17-year old Rheannan from Bundaberg was supported by her Chappy through flooding rains, her sister’s cancer diagnosis and her family’s financial strain.

As if that wasn’t enough, late last year Rheannan was diagnosed with a chiari malformation, a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. As a result, she suffered through severe headaches and dizzy spells. Over time her symptoms continued to deteriorate. (more…)

As a young girl growing up in Wales in the 1940s, SU QLD supporter Billie Patrick, made footprints in the sand at the very same Llandudno beach Scripture Union founder, Josiah Spiers, first crafted his simple, yet inspirational message of God’s love.

It was the same beach Billie’s great grandfather, a contemporary of Josiah Spiers, is believed to have shared God’s love as he preached among the sand dunes.

It’s this same message that Billie has carried in her heart since becoming a Christian in London at 21 years of age in 1957.

“I remember asking my friend June, who’d been praying for me to come to Christ, ‘what do I do now?’ (more…)

Long-time SU QLD supporter, Phil Henley, principal of Steadfast Realty Qld is now making it more cost-effective to sell your home, while also building into the lives of children and young people.

You may recall, Phil’s generous offer to donate 50% of the commission paid to Steadfast (after advertising costs) from the sale of your home to SU QLD and school chaplaincy. As attractive as that was, unless selling an investment property, the deal didn’t include a tax deduction. Now it does. (more…)

by Wendy Ferguson, Relationship Manager – Bequests

Next year, Scripture Union International will celebrate 150 years of service to children and young people. From humble beginnings in England in the 1860’s, SU now operates in approximately 120 countries worldwide.

In 1880, the seeds of Scripture Union in Australia were sown. Generations of people have been part of this story. The thousands of children and young people whose lives have been transformed through camps and beach missions – or who have been positively impacted by the care of a chaplain – are testament to the legacy of that original vision all those years ago.
