Chaplain treats teachers to special retreat

Posted in Chaplaincy

Chaplain Jenny from Palmwoods State School wanted to do something special for her teaching staff, so she held a ladies retreat for the teachers of her school.

“I initially asked the ladies via email who would be interested in a retreat and received a very favourable response. I ended up with 14 staff attending,” said Jenny.

Jenny planned “special moments” for the time away.

“We commenced with morning tea and “special moment #1” a bag of goodies, including a gift and a card of encouragement that I had arranged to be written by various parents or other staff members. This made some people cry. Then there was free time and they were encouraged to go on walks, visit the markets and build friendships. We also had a masseuse on site for the day and everyone got a 30 minute massage. This was a hit,” said Jenny

Jenny then planned a formal dinner. “Everyone got dressed up for a formal dinner that had been prepared by our tuckshop lady who was a chef. On their plates was “special moment” #2, a gift with a special meaning. This gift was to remind them to guard their hearts, to hold on to their dreams, that forgiveness is new every day, and they are highly valued by God. We played a fun game after dinner and then danced the night away,” she said.

The group rose nice and early the final morning to enjoy a lavish breakfast together.

“The response has been amazing and the ladies loved it, and all would like to do one every year. This whole event came about because I wanted them to feel loved and appreciated. I felt this event was a very valuable event to enable me to also build closer relationships with each of the ladies present.”

Chaplains are always thinking of special things they can do to support their school communities.
