“One of the best weeks of my life”

High school senior, Jakob Friske, knew very little of SU-Schoolies before he arrived on day one at the Sunshine Coast, ready to experience the unknown.

One week later, he described it as “one of the best weeks of my life”.

Graduating last year from Cooloola Christian College in Gympie, Jakob became a Christian towards the end of his final year of school.

“At that stage, no one in my family was [Christian] at all, so I was sent [to a Christian school] just because it was a better school,” he recalls.

No longer feeling like he could go to the Gold Coast and participate in his planned Schoolies, Jakob anticipated this would mean the end to his celebrations.

But then Jakob heard about SU-Schoolies…“About a month out, one of the leaders [Joey] who I used to know years beforehand invited me to go. I wasn’t going to be able to make it at first.

“Because my parents aren’t Christians, they weren’t willing to fund me to go and I didn’t have to the money to go myself.

“So Joey actually got the church that I’d just started going to, to sponsor me to go.”

With his local church generously covering the cost of his registration, Jakob was able to celebrate his end of school in style and he was blown away by the experience.

“It’s definitely an amazing experience. The amount of stuff that SU has got set up for you to do. Honestly I couldn’t rate it high enough.”

Jakob enjoyed his time so much that he’s decided to come back and be a volunteer leader on this year’s SU-Schoolies.

He has volunteered to lead on other SU Camps throughout the year including the recent GENTS Camp.

“It’s one of the most fulfilling things you can do, to become a leader, especially seeing both sides of the coin now.

“You get to work with a specific group of people and you make friendships for life, both with the leaders and some of the young people.

There are still 2016 SU-Schoolies places available now! Visit su-schoolies.com for more information, and register for the “best week of your life”.
