Your support equals net gain for community

For every whistle blown, every fluoro bib donned, and every goal netted at the recent SU QLD Indoor Netball Community Cup, we have you to thank!

SU QLD Sports Ministry Coordinator Jeff Howard said more than 200 players and many more spectators descended on the Brisbane City Indoor Sports Centre for a great day of action, community building and teamwork.

“We had twenty teams, including nine new teams. The event was sold out weeks before the day and we had a waiting list of individuals and groups hoping to get in on the action,” Jeff remarked.

“Sport brings people together, regardless of their background, and this event was no different. It was a fun day of sport and fellowship.”

Another encouraging sign is the growing number of family teams competing at the Community Cups.

“There were multiple teams made up of parent/child pairings – not young children, but teenagers and young adults. It’s so good to see these relationships develop and the children get a thrill from playing with their parents,” Jeff said.

The event marks the third Community Cup of the year. As the name suggests, it’s about bringing communities together, getting active and having fun in a God-honouring way.

“If you look across the five Community Cup’s we’ve done over the past 18 months, there’s around 700 people that have attended and participated. It has grown very quickly,” Jeff notes.

“I think the thing that’s most exciting for us (SU QLD) is the relationships that are being built across the events – not just between players but also corporately in the community,” he said.

Enjoying the day out, Tylah Robinson from Arana Hills said the atmosphere was amazing and she’s keen to participate in the next event too.

“There’s such a great community atmosphere. I loved facing off against my friends and even making some new ones.
I loved that before every game we’d pray together. It was such an awesome day, filled with lots of laughs, sweat and fun,” she said.
