What’s happening in more than 170 countries around the world, connecting with millions of children and their families, and is having a real impact here in Queensland? KidsGames!

The Bible-based, sports and games event helps churches connect with their local communities. More than 50 churches in the greater Brisbane area have run KidsGames since it began in 2002, and it’s now expanding into more than 15 regional centres. SU QLD helps run the events across the state.

Since the very beginning in the 1860s, Scripture Union (SU) organisations worldwide have run local, community-based outreaches to provide fun activities for children and families.

Dozens of events still take place every year throughout the state.

From December 26th to the 2nd of January 500 young people and their families heard a story of hope in Bargara, a coastal town of Bundaberg.

AMPED Bargara Community Outreach was a week of fun, community engagement and building great relationships.

At just six weeks old, Bek Mihill attended her first SU QLD camp. Now, 21 years later, she’s camp director.

“I love kids! I have a passion for young people and I love going on camps, sitting with a small group of girls, and talking to them about life, school and God,” Bek says.

“After spending years watching my Dad directing camps, and being a leader myself for many years, becoming a camp director just seemed like the natural next step for me.”

The last couple of years have been pretty intense for our family, so we wanted to give our daughter Grace, a special treat.

I have my own fond memories of the SU camps I attended when I was younger, so I looked up what camps might be suitable for Grace on the SU QLD website and found Camp Capers. It looked like a lot of fun, and we knew there would be a loving atmosphere and great spiritual input. Plus, when we showed the camp description to Grace, she begged to go!

Michelle Sprenger remembers the day her family’s world changed forever.

It was back in 2005, and it was nearing her son Caleb’s 3rd birthday.

“Caleb is our second son and when he was born he completed our ‘perfect’ little family of four. We had our first son, Joshua, 21 months earlier and as they were so close in age, we intended the two little brothers to grow up together and be mates,” Michelle recalls.

“As a baby, we were delighted to discover Caleb’s calm and placid temperament. It was a striking contrast to Joshua who was always busy and on-the-go. But as our babies became toddlers, the gap in the milestones widened.
