Chaplain Jenny from Palmwoods State School wanted to do something special for her teaching staff, so she held a ladies retreat for the teachers of her school.

“I initially asked the ladies via email who would be interested in a retreat and received a very favourable response. I ended up with 14 staff attending,” said Jenny.

Jenny planned “special moments” for the time away.

It is said that necessity is the mother of invention. For Chappy Carly, this was certainly the case.

Invited by her school principal to run a SUPA Club (Scripture Union Primary Age) when she accepted her chaplaincy role at Mt Samson State School, Carly was short of volunteers to help run the program.

SUPA clubs provide an opportunity for children to explore the Bible in a fun, interactive and age appropriate way outside of regular class time, provided each child has parental consent.

As any parent can attest, a well-fed child is a happy child. That’s the idea behind Chaplain Angie Brown’s new lunch time initiative to get food in the stomachs of those young people who need it the most.

When Angie started at Browns Plains State School, she discovered a need. Every day, there were a number of students coming to school without any lunch in their school bags and trying to power on through the day without the fuel to do so.

“I think we’ve finally nailed a great format for the night. This year we added a live auction. It added an entertaining element and had a much better financial outcome. People really got into it and we had a great range of art to suit all tastes and budgets,” says Tania.
